Michael J. Dans, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Dans is a native of California and attended UC Davis on a Regents Scholarship where he earned a B.S. in Biochemistry. He then obtained a scholarship to attend New York University School of Medicine to earn an M.D. and Ph.D. His Ph.D. research was performed at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and related to skin cancer, skin development and blistering diseases. Dr. Dans completed his internship in internal medicine at NYU and his residency in dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine's Department of Dermatology, which was America's first Department of Dermatology and is the nation's highest ranked academic dermatology program (see link). Prior to practicing in San Francisco, Dr. Dans practiced dermatology in Marin County. Dr. Dans is a clinical instructor of dermatology at UCSF and supervises and teaches medical students and residents at San Francisco General Hospital. Dr. Dans has published numerous scientific and medical articles and book chapters related to skin disease and treatment.





Carey Cano, PA-C

Carey is a certified physician assistant who joined San Francisco dermatology in 2011.  She enjoys practicing all aspects of medical and surgical dermatology, but has special interests in acne, psoriasis and skin cancer.  She is originally from Charleston, South Carolina.  She obtained a Bachelor of Science and Master of Exercise and Sport Sciences from the University of Florida before going on to obtain her physician assistant Master of Health Sciences from the University of South Alabama.  She moved to the Bay Area with her husband in 2007.
